French Press Coffee Brewing Guide
The French Press is one of the most popular and accessible brewing methods worldwide. Found in hotels, Airbnbs, and homes everywhere, this classic coffee maker delivers a full-bodied and flavourful cup with minimal effort.
For the French Press method, we recommend La Bomba Filter for those who enjoy coffee without milk. But if you like a dash of milk, our Colombian Rhapsody blend will give you the perfect balanced cup.
What You’ll Need
To make the perfect French Press coffee, gather these essential tools:
French Press
A wooden or plastic stirrer (to avoid damaging the glass)
A small scale (for precise coffee-to-water ratio)
A timer (to control the brewing process)
A coffee grinder (recommended for maximum freshness)
High-quality coffee beans (or pre-ground if you don’t have a grinder)
A gooseneck kettle (preferably with an adjustable thermostat for temperature control)
How to Brew French Press Coffee
Step 1 - Grind & Measure Your Coffee
Grind your coffee to a medium-coarse consistency (similar to sea salt). Measure 25g of coffee for two cups.
Step 2 - Start the Bloom
Place the French press with the ground coffee on the scale. Start your timer while you start gently and evenly pouring about 100gr of hot water (at 93c) making sure all the coffee is wet.
Step 3 - Stir & Let It Bloom
Gently stir the coffee and let it bloom for 30 seconds to 1 minute, allowing gases to release for a richer flavour.
Step 4- Add More Water & Brew
Pour the remaining 400ml of hot water, cover with the lid (without pressing the plunger), and let it steep for a total of 4 minutes.
Step 5 - Stir & Plunge
Stir once more to break the crust that forms on top. Place the plunger on and press down gently and evenly until fully submerged.
Step 6 - Serve & Enjoy
Immediately pour the coffee into cups or transfer it to a separate jug to prevent over-extraction and bitterness.
