Behind La Bomba: The Story of César Buesaquillo

Cesar and Nico tasting Cesar Buesaquillo's coffee

Back in 2019, we were given the opportunity to do something different.

Instead of simply buying coffee, we committed to supporting a producer we believed in — Colombian coffee grower Cesar Buesaquillo.

We agreed to secure part of his harvest at a fair price, giving him something many farmers don’t have: certainty. Knowing in advance what resources he could count on allowed Cesar to plan, invest, and focus on improving his farm and his craft.

And that’s exactly what he did. Over the years, we have witnessed that growth firsthand. We visit Cesar every two years, and each time we return, we see how both his coffee and his life continue to evolve. He has improved his home, investing in renovations to create a better quality of life for his family. At the same time, he has elevated his work on the farm — experimenting with new and more exotic varieties that bring even greater value and complexity to his coffees.

What started with one coffee — La Bomba — has grown into something much bigger.

Today, from the same farm, we are proud to share a growing range of coffees: La Bomba,La Bomba Filter, La Bomba Pink Bourbon, La Bomba Yellow Gesha and soon… Chiroso. Each one is a different expression of Cesar’s work, his land, and his commitment to quality.

More Than a Visit — A Shared Table in Buenavista

Recently we had the privilege of visiting him again. He welcomed us with a beautiful lunch overlooking Buenavista, Quindio — a moment that felt truly special. We travelled with our families, including our daughters and parents, and shared that table together with Cesar, his wife Maria, and their son. It felt less like a visit, and more like gathering as one big family.

We walked through the coffee fields, climbed mountains surrounded not only by coffee trees, but also by fruit trees that help nourish the soil and contribute to the unique flavour profiles that define the La Bomba range.

This is what Behind La Bomba is all about. It’s not just about coffee. It’s about the relationship behind it.
